ENGAGE
“But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”
1 John 3:17-18
We are collaborating with local leaders to identify three urgent areas of need in Whittier that can be meaningfully addressed through the unified action of Christ’s people.
Our first Impact Area is homelessness. Continue reading below to find out more about how you can participate in the work that is already being done to serve our homeless neighbors. Our second and third Impact Areas are still being determined. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to suggest a challenge for us to tackle.

Homelessness in Whittier
Homelessness is a very complicated issue involving challenges such as difficult family dynamics, addictions, health concerns, mental illness, legal matters, and job losses. As a result, trust is a major challenge for our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Building relationships is the key in gaining trust, and although it takes time, this is the greatest goal we have in this area. By working together and building partnerships, we strive to provide ways for Christ followers to let our neighbors without homes know that they matter, that God loves them, and that we are willing to walk along side them on their path to recovery.
In 2015, we met with the Whittier City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Director of Community Development, other City staff, and asked them: “What is the greatest issue facing Whittier that you cannot solve on your own? What is the greatest challenge in Whittier that you need help with the most?” Their overwhelming response to those questions was “Homelessness”.
